Timmons Group Congratulates the I-295/Meadowville Technology Parkway Interchange Opening in Chesterfield County, VA

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) December 20, 2011

Timmons Group, an ENR 500 Design Firm and a leader in civil engineering consulting services, is pleased to announce that on December 15, VDOT and Chesterfield County officials celebrated the opening of the long-awaited interchange on Interstate 295 at Meadowville Technology Parkway. Envisioned as a future interchange location when I-295 was originally constructed in 1988, this new diamond interchange was constructed as a $ 11.7 million design-build project in less than 15 months.

Through a contract with Chesterfield County, Timmons Group first began developing plans for this interchange in 1996 to support the 1,300-acre Meadowville Technology Park, one of Virginia?s economic development mega-sites. Survey and preliminary plans were prepared and VDOT approval of the design features was received within nine months of notice to proceed. All environmental documents and permits were completed, but the project was ceased - due to lack of funding.

In 2010, the project recommenced through a combination of federal, state and Chesterfield County resources, which included the County?s commitment to dedicate incremental business, professional and occupational license (BPOL) taxes towards transportation projects. Timmons Group worked with VDOT and Chesterfield County to update the preliminary plans and develop bid documents. In July 2010 the project was advertised for design-build construction and just two months later, a contract was awarded to Curtis Contracting of West Point, Virginia. The project included interim and ultimate design plans for the entire interchange, construction of the outer ramps, widening of Meadowville Road (later renamed Meadowville Technology Parkway), traffic signals at the ramp intersections, new overhead signage along I-295 and auxiliary lanes on I-295 connecting the new ramps to an existing interchange at Route 10. Curtis Contracting and their design partner Parsons Brinckerhoff worked closely with VDOT and County staff to complete the project on schedule and under budget.

"Timmons Group is proud to have been a part of this successful design-build project," said Paul Trapp, Principal and Director of Infrastructure at Timmons Group. "With the County?s vision achieved, the new interchange is already attracting significant economic development interest."

Timmons Group Selected by United States Coast Guard to Support Enterprise Geospatial Architecture Development

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial consulting and applications development, was recently selected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to design a Common Geospatial Information System (GIS) Framework. The intent is to develop a highly scalable GIS enterprise architecture framework that will satisfy the Coast Guard?s functional and geospatial needs in support of a common operational GIS framework. The framework is intended to leverage the Microsoft Silverlight Applications Programming Interface (API) within the Esri ArcGIS platform environment.

The project will involve extensive strategic planning services and analysis for the GIS framework. Tasks involve determining current and future business driven spatial information requirements, research and identification of best practices, and developing recommendations for spatial information focused on processes, policies, procedures, access, security, maintenance and archiving. The tasks will ultimately document gaps and leverage best practices in developing a roadmap for future framework capabilities.

Following the Strategic Plan, Timmons Group will develop an Implementation Guide which will document all aspects of the architecture including data formats, network design considerations, framework and application performance factors, development methodology and testing strategies. This guide will provide tactical plans for the enterprise GIS program that will accompany the higher level strategic plan.

?We are extremely proud to partner with the USCG on this project. They have critical needs for highly integrated spatial information and robust decision support tools for important mission tasks including search and rescue operations and planning,? said Lowell Ballard, Director of Geospatial Solutions for Timmons Group. ?The Coast Guard has a great vision for the future and we looking forward to helping them achieve their near- and long-term goals.?
